LONDON - QPR clinched promotion to the English Premier League with a 2-0 win against Watford on Saturday.

Neil Warnock's side returned to the top-flight after a 15-year absence, and secured the Championship title in the process, thanks to second half goals from Adel Taarabt and Tommy Smith at Vicarage Road.

Chelsea late show keeps title dream alive

LONDON - CHELSEA kept their Premier League title dream alive on Saturday after scrambling a controversial late 2-1 victory over Tottenham at Stamford Bridge.

Second-half substitute Salomon Kalou's 89th-minute strike secured a priceless win for the reigning champions, who closed the gap on leaders Manchester United to three points.

Inter win delays AC Milan's title bid

ROME - GIAMPAOLO Pazzini scored twice in injury time as Inter Milan rallied to beat Cesena 2-1 on Saturday and delay city rival AC Milan in its bid for the Serie A title.

Igor Budan had put Cesena in front in the 56th minute before Pazzini scored in the first and fifth minutes of added time - first with a volley following a long cross from Samuel Eto'o, then with a leaping header following a cross from Maicon.

Blanc apologises over French race controversy

PARIS - FRANCE national coach Laurent Blanc apologised on Saturday after he was implicated in a controversial plan to limit the number of dual-nationality players in French youth training centres.

'I admit that certain terms, used during a work meeting on a sensitive and wide-ranging subject, could be interpreted ambiguously if removed from their context and if I hurt anyone's feelings, I apologise,' said Blanc in a statement.

Black Cats mauled by Fulham

SUNDERLAND - INJURY-HIT Sunderland crashed to their eighth defeat in 10 matches as Fulham scored only their second away win in nearly two years with a 3-0 victory at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

Fulham had not won on their league travels since August 2009, but the Cottagers proved too strong for Steve Bruce's side, who had been hoping to build on last weekend's victory over Wigan.

Badminton: Hidayat crashes out of India Open

NEW DELHI - BADMINTON: World number three Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia blamed the food after he was sent packing by South Korean Park Sung Hwan in the quarter-finals of the India Open Super Series on Friday.

Hidayat, seeded second in the US$200,000 (S$245,000) event, lost 21-17 21-17 to world number 12 Park for the first time in his career, having defeated him in their last 10 meetings.

Ronaldo leads effort to build sports centres in favelas

RIO DE JANEIRO - LED by Brazilian football star Ronaldo, two sports groups, the Inter-American Development Bank and communications giant WPP said on Friday they will raise money to build 18 sports centres in Rio's favelas.

The group includes the US National Basketball Association and the Spanish football club Barcelona.

HWA Chong Institution (HCI) turned the tables on Raffles Institution (RI) on Friday when the school's A boys squash team defeated Raffles Institution 3-2 at the Schools National squash final.

Vettel warns Red Bull to stay on guard
